How to print passport photos for under a dollar
Your BuckBooth print sheet is a normal 4×6 inch photo with your document photos laid out at exact size. Any photo counter can print it.
At a pharmacy or store
- Download the 4×6 print sheet to your phone or computer.
- Open the store's photo website or app, or use the in-store kiosk, and upload the sheet.
- Choose a 4×6 print (sometimes called 10×15 cm). Do not choose the "passport photo" service — that is the expensive one.
- Keep the whole image. The sheet is already exactly 4×6, so nothing should be cropped.
- Pick matte or glossy photo paper. Both are accepted for U.S. passports.
A single 4 × 6 photo print costs roughly $0.16 at Walmart to $0.39 at CVS (prices vary by store). Source.
At home
- Load 4×6 photo paper into a photo-capable printer.
- Print at 100% / actual size, borderless off. Turn off "fit to page" and any photo enhancement.
- Use the printer's best quality setting.
Cutting and checking
- Cut along the grey corner marks with scissors or a paper trimmer.
- Measure one photo with a ruler: 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm) for U.S. documents, 35 × 45 mm for UK and Schengen.
- Don't write on, staple or bend the photos.
Which documents accept home-made photos?
The U.S. Department of State lists "a friend or family member" as an option for taking passport photos and asks for prints on photo-quality paper. GOV.UK says booth or shop photos are more likely to be approved and requires a professional-standard print. Canada requires a commercial photographer. Check the official page for your document before you print.
